Is buying a used CX-90 3.3l Turbo S Premium a good deal?

The seller is offering this used CX-90 for $44k, and it’s only got 8.5k miles on it. The car still has its powertrain and bumper-to-bumper warranty. The seller bought it in May 2024 and is selling it now in October. But I’m wondering, why would someone sell so soon? I’ve read some concerns, like mechanics saying the engine might need to be removed for minor repairs, some mentioning transmission issues, and others saying it idles rough. Is it worth taking the risk buying from a private seller, or am I just overthinking a good deal?

I’d pick this on a gen4 3.

They probably bought it not realizing they couldn’t afford the payments.

The issues are known, but you’ll probably get them sorted with time during regular servicing or through official recalls. The price seems like a bargain to me, but this isn’t buying advice—only you can decide that.

That color is wild!

Agree… Is it eggplant? Does anyone know the actual name of the color?

It looks like the actual color is artesian red, but it might just be the filter.

No, I’ve seen it in person, and it’s amazing.

This car is still in the early years of a new model. There will be some minor issues for the first few years, as shown by the many recalls (mostly software updates). But the 3.3L engine is a great choice.

@Aubrey
Does this also apply to the CX-70? I don’t see much interest in it despite the 3.3L turbo and nice features. Could it be because of the mild hybrid system?

The CX-70 doesn’t make sense. It’s basically the CX-90 but without the third row. Better to have the option to fold down seats than not have them at all.

@Asa
Doesn’t the CX-70 even keep the CX-90’s third-row cup holders?

Yeah, it’s basically the same car.

The CX-70 is mechanically identical to the CX-90 except for the trim levels. The mild hybrid system is a decent feature, but it’s not as fuel-efficient as a true hybrid, like the one Mazda is developing for the next CX-5. But you could go for the CX-50, which uses Toyota’s 4th-gen hybrid system.

Getting over 30mpg on the highway with a 5000lb SUV and 340hp isn’t too bad.

It’s pretty good! You can get even better mileage on cruise control at 60mph with most vehicles.

But compared to PHEVs and EVs, they get 2 to 3 times that.

I’d suggest test driving it and having a trusted mechanic inspect it before you decide.

I saw this same car on Facebook for $42.5k, so maybe you can get it for less. Just make sure it’s not a scam.
