Did I get a good deal on my Mazda CX-30?

I just bought a new snowflake pearl white CX-30 preferred for $33,000 out the door. The manufacturer’s price was $31,260 and I got a $1,300 dealer discount plus a $750 Mazda rebate. I chose to pay $1,000 for a transferable extended warranty covering 10 years or 85k miles, and an extra $175 for paint protection. The sales tax here is 7%, so about $2,100? I also got 3 oil and filter changes with a car wash and possible detailing. I have a 1.69% interest rate for 63 months and only put down $7,000.

I haven’t driven it home yet, so could I still cancel the deal if I find out it’s not good?

That sounds great. Well done

Glad to hear it. It seems like similar prices to other Mazda dealers in my state. All their 2024 CX-5s were sold, and the choices were between a $25k Mazda3 with the lowest trim, and the CX-30 that I test drove back to back. They only had one white CX-30 on the lot, but three red ones, all preferred package. I might have gotten a better price on the red, but I really like the white and black contrast. Eight months ago, people were paying a few thousand below the manufacturer’s price for the same models, not sure how, to be honest. I think if I had waited, I would have faced worse financing rates and fewer Mazda rebates on the newer, more expensive 2025 models.

Honestly, you just paid what they wanted and then added their extras, so the dealer is definitely getting a good deal here.

The extras usually cost around $2,500 and $700 respectively, and they reduced the price by $1,300 plus the $750 Mazda rebate. To be honest, it might have still sold if I had waited, or at least that was the first time I felt that way and cared.

Everyone gets the rebates, so it’s just part of the price. The extras can be hard to use. I would check some reviews for the ones you bought. Usually, buying an extended warranty on a new car is not worth the money. Just my opinion, but the CX-30 is a very popular car, you don’t need to pay the manufacturer’s price.

@Wynne
Wouldn’t a popular car require the manufacturer’s price, or even more? I can cancel the warranty anytime, it is pro-rated and transferable. It’s about $100 a year for peace of mind… the manufacturer’s price is technically $31,200, but I paid $29,900.

@Mai
I’m not trying to argue with you. You asked for my opinion, and I gave it even if you don’t like it.

When I say very popular, I mean there are many available, new and used. My point is anyone can buy it for the price you paid. It might not be a great deal, but it’s what you chose to pay, so it works for you. Personally, I would never pay $33k for the preferred model.

@Wynne
I appreciate your opinion anyway.

I paid $33k out the door in June for my Carbon model, with 0% interest and no down payment. It included a few extras like all-weather mats and an oil change. I initially had a $3k service agreement added, which made it $36k, but I removed it after reading the agreement.

@Ciel
Nice, that sounds like a great deal. Isn’t the Carbon model similar to the premium in terms of features? I liked the idea of a turbo, but I didn’t test drive one and was worried about reliability since I plan to keep this car for a long time.

Very similar to what I got in July for the same model and color. Our dealer offers lifetime oil changes, which is probably the only difference. They weren’t offering anything else, so I had to negotiate to get $1,500 off. Since I didn’t have a trade-in, there were no transfer fees, which I think saved me $300. Very similar.

@Galen
Thanks, I asked them about lifetime oil changes and they seemed surprised. At this point, it looks like I’m committed. I definitely could have done worse; buying a car for the first time is a tough experience.

@Mai
It doesn’t get easier. They always expect my husband to finalize the deal, but I’m the one who negotiates. I hate that. Every time!!

I can imagine that would be really frustrating. I did my best to handle it, and I don’t think I did too bad. At least I didn’t end up with those 23% buy here pay here deals, haha. I’m young, I can afford to lose a bit here and there if it helps me learn.

@Mai
You did well! It’s a nice car. Enjoy it.

I think you did well! I got my Carbon model for $32,288 with a 1.69% interest rate for 60 months. The sales tax here is 4.15%. I didn’t get any extra services. It came with 3 accessories, and I got another one added for free. The manufacturer’s price was $31,775, so I got about $1,700 off that which went back into taxes and fees, haha.

@Emerson
Nice, I love the color of the Carbon model; it changes from gray to blue in certain light! I wanted a turbo, but I was worried about reliability.

Me too! Mine isn’t turbo either. I couldn’t justify the extra cost just for more speed, haha.

@Emerson
Oh, I thought Carbon was the same as turbo, but there’s Carbon Turbo and Turbo Premium. Haha, there are so many different trims!
