Hey all! Just went car shopping today and the 2018 Mazda 6 Touring caught my eye. I don’t know much about Mazdas, I’m more of a Ford and Subaru person. But this one seems to check off all my boxes.
I currently drive a 2012 Subaru Legacy and I was looking for something a bit sportier, a bit more stylish.
Here’s my question to you guys: why should I want this car? I’m on the fence because I haven’t found a good enough reason to choose this over my Subaru, but the reviews and videos are saying great things about it. Can you help me get on board and turn me into a Mazda fan?
(The car is about 200 miles away, so I can’t test drive it until it arrives in two days.)
The driving experience is way better than Ford or Subaru. The Mazda 6 has better handling, a sportier steering feel, and the interior quality is top notch compared to your Subaru or a Ford.
The Mazda 6 is just a much nicer overall car. The drive is way more fun, and the interior design and materials are way ahead of what you’d get from Ford or Subaru.
The car should be a great choice, but I recommend having an independent mechanic inspect it before you buy, especially since it’s out of warranty. Don’t just rely on the dealer’s word, even if the mechanic has to do an on-site inspection.
I wish you could test drive it. The Mazda 6 isn’t super fast, but it’s fun to drive and has great handling. Your Subaru Legacy has 170 HP and 170 lb-ft, while the Mazda 6 from 2016 has 184 HP and 185 lb-ft. So it’s a bit more powerful but not by much. The Mazda 6 definitely has a stylish look, though. I had a 2014 Mazda 6 myself, so I’m a bit biased!
I’ve had both a 2017 CX-5 and a 2015 Forester XT. The Forester had a good engine, but everything else was lacking. The CX-5, however, had better reliability, comfort, and fuel economy. I’m now looking forward to a RWD 6-cylinder Mazda 6!
The Mazda 6 won’t be a whole lot faster than your Legacy. If speed is a big factor for you, you might want something lighter or with a more powerful engine. The 6 is more of a comfortable cruiser, just like your Subaru.
