Hey everyone, I just saw this thing about Mazda recalling cars from 2004-2008 because of those Takata airbags. Apparently, these airbags can explode and send metal bits flying into the cabin… sounds pretty serious. They’re offering free repairs if your car is affected. If you have a Mazda6, RX-8, MPV or a B-Series truck from those years, you might wanna check. Has anyone here dealt with this recall? How long does it take to fix?
Yeah, I had to deal with this for my old RX-8. The repair itself was quick, like maybe two hours tops, but scheduling it was kinda a pain. Make sure to call ahead.

Two hours? That’s not bad. Did they give you a loaner car or anything while you waited?
@Jamie
No loaner, but I just waited in their lounge. They had free coffee, so it wasn’t terrible.
Does anyone know how to check if your car’s affected? I don’t have the recall notice anymore.

Oh, just grab your VIN and go to Mazda’s recall website or the NHTSA site. You can check it there!
@Oak
What’s a VIN again?

No worries! It’s that 17-character code on your dashboard near the windshield or on the driver’s door frame. It’s also on your registration.
I live in Florida, so I got the recall notice ages ago. Apparently, the humidity here makes the airbags even riskier. Don’t wait, y’all!

Wow, I didn’t know climate made a difference. Thanks for the heads-up!
I ignored the recall for a while, but my insurance guy said it could mess with my coverage. Got it fixed ASAP after that.

Wait, they can deny coverage because of an open recall? That’s wild.
@Chen
They didn’t outright say no coverage, but it could be an issue in case of a claim. Better safe than sorry!
FYI, Mazda will even tow your car to the dealership if you’re worried about driving it. They’re really trying to make it easy.

That’s good to know! I was worried about driving mine in case something happens.
