@Sam
It’s usually with non-turbo Skyactiv petrol engines.

Good to know! How can you tell if this happens?

You’ll see a low oil pressure light and probably find coolant and oil pooled under your car.
@Shawn
So it’s pretty obvious when it happens. Thanks a lot!

Make sure you have a good mechanic do your oil changes and check for leaks every time.

Is there a part difference between the non-turbo and turbo engines that might cause this?

Today at work we discussed this post. I’ve never had a cracked head on a turbo, but one guy said he’s seen it happen once. I don’t think the TSB covers turbo vehicles for this issue. It might just be a casting problem from the factory.
Is this a common problem for Miatas? I’ve got a 2024 that I’m pushing hard on the track.

Sorry, I’ve never seen it on a Miata. It mainly happens with the CX-5.

It’s mainly the 2018 2.5L models and newer. Never heard of it happening with a Miata.
Is this just a CX-5 issue? I’ve never heard of this in my petrol Mazda 2 1.5… maybe it just hasn’t happened yet.

I’ve personally only seen it on CX-5s and CX-30s. They share the same engine, so it’s not impossible for the issue to occur in other models.
Edit: To the person who downvoted, I should’ve said that the CX-5 and CX-30 have the same engine options, not the Mazda 2 which I mentioned earlier.
Apparently it relates to cylinder deactivation, at least that’s what the forum is saying.

It’s possible cylinders 2 and 3 are the only ones running when it activates, so maybe it’s stress-related. I’m not sure.
We just bought our first Mazda, a 2024 CX-50. We’ve only had it since July, and it’s already been in the service department for about 2 weeks. They keep finding new issues after they think they’ve fixed it. I know this isn’t typical, but I’d recommend getting the extended warranty.
I thought all of them got an extension on the warranty from Mazda.
You really could get something new for not much more. Try to get zero interest.
Yes, absolutely. My 2018 had similar issues and failed at 44k miles.
You should definitely get the extended warranty. It’s essential for both new and used cars.
