Do You Guys Like the Key Fob Design?

Compared to other brands, I actually think it’s pretty.

I do not. Scratches like crazy and oversized for no reason, with awful battery replacement access and battery life.

It also opens up easily when dropped. I can’t even count the number of times I accidentally dropped it and its opened, and the physical key has fallen out. I wish it had a remote start button, but they just want to sell subscriptions for the app.

@Lennon
I lost the back of one of my keys because of this :confused:

@Lennon
This is so true :triumph:

@Lennon
How are you dropping it? Doesn’t it just stay in your pocket? Keyless entry + push button start, hand goes into pocket to push unlock, get in then drive. Key only leaves my pocket once I’m at home and in my pajamas. I leave my other keys separate.

@Finley
I keep it in the same pocket as my wallet, sometimes it falls out when I’m trying to pay for stuff. Plus my NA Miata key is on the same keychain as my CX-30 key, so I pull it out when I drive my fun car.

It’s free when you buy it but only for a trial, and then you have to pay. Brand new you get a free 3-year trial. Then it’s $10/month. Buy a used one and it’s a free 1-year trial, then $10/month. Waste of money. I’d rather take that $10/month and get my own remote start put into the vehicle myself.

@Jade
Take it from a service tech, aftermarket remote starts are usually garbage, especially anything under $200. I removed a lot of them, usually having to replace damaged ignition switch harnesses or other items that had corrosion (I’m in MN). A properly installed remote start is like $500. For that, you have 4 years of the factory system, which won’t mess up your ignition circuit wiring.

@Niko
Fortin has a remote start module and T-Harness. It costs $129 on Amazon. I have one in my Mazda and installed two others for friends. They work amazingly. Use the factory key fob as well.

@Jade
My CPO seems to have come with a 3-year trial that started on the original in-service date.

@Jade
Saving $10 a month, by the time you save enough money to get your remote start installed, you’ll probably want to be getting a new car. What I do is pay the $10 a month for the winter months so I have remote start and then I cancel it for the warmer months because the remote start alone is worth it. I wish the app would give tire pressure for each tire; that’s one of my small pet peeves about my CX-5.

Not anymore.

Not to mention, if you have factory remote start installed, you receive a nearly identical fob with buttons not on the side, but on the front. I would be okay with a large fob like this that combines the remote start and standard access buttons, or even a smaller main fob like the ones they had in 2018 and prior, but carrying around two of these chonky fobs is beyond painful.

It does suck, I agree with Cardemotic. With the tab you flip open the side that houses the key, then you need to force off the silver plate and only then can you remove the one that houses the battery. It’s finicky at best.

@Jael
And there are several steps where you feel like you’re breaking the cheap plastic.

Yeeesh.

The aesthetic of the design is lovely. The quality and durability of it, however, is absolute shit. Don’t drop it. The cover will fly off and the metal blade key will fly under the fridge or into the bushes. I bought a cover for mine, so I can’t even enjoy the design.
