Why does my 2017 CX-5 screen and radio keep resetting in the cold?

Every time it gets cold, my screen and radio restart constantly. It happens around 5-10 times even after I’ve been driving for a while. It’s driving me crazy. Does anyone know what could fix this?

Try removing the SD card if you have one in. If that doesn’t solve it, you might need to replace the CMU.

I’ve been wondering about this issue too. For those who fixed it by pulling the SD card, does getting a new card solve it completely, or is it a hardware problem?

@Aeron
Yep, a new SD card should fix it. When the SD card gets corrupted, it causes the rebooting. You can buy a replacement card on Amazon, and that should do the trick. If you’re still under warranty, Mazda might replace it for free.

@River
Great to know! I’ll check Amazon for a replacement. Thanks for confirming!

@River
Could you share a link to the right card? I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks so much for the advice!

Quick question… is this something I’d need to take to Mazda, or can I fix it myself? I’m not very familiar with car stuff, so sorry if this sounds dumb.

@Jordan
You can do it yourself. The SD card is in the center armrest. Just make sure the car is off when you remove it. If you still want navigation, you can buy a new card on Amazon for about $50. The issue happens because the card gets corrupted, so replacing it solves the problem.

Have you tried updating the software?

For me, it ended up being the CMU. I had to replace it, and it cost me about $2,000 CAD a couple of years ago. Removing the SD card didn’t help in my case.

At that price, I might just stick a Bluetooth speaker on the dash :joy::joy::joy:.
