Should I get the last of the current CX-5 or wait for the new model?

I’m thinking about whether it’s better to buy the current CX-5 now or wait for the new model to come out in 6, 12, or maybe even 18 months.

I don’t know too much about the new model except that it will be longer and will have hybrid options.

So, should I get the last of the current model now? It has all the bugs worked out, good pricing, and the 2.5L Turbo engine (will this still be offered in the new version as Mazda deals with government emissions rules around the world?). Or should I wait for the new, bigger version that might not be based on something that’s over a decade old?

I’d say wait for the new model to be announced, then grab a current one at a lower price.

The new one should be available by fall 2025. If I were you, I’d wait (if possible). I think the turbo will still be offered.

First-year models from any brand tend to have more issues, but if you’re okay with that risk, go for it! You’ll love the car either way.

Yeah, just look at the CX-90.

Always be cautious with newer models. They might have issues. The current CX-5 has been refined over the years, so it’s solid now. I was in a similar situation and ended up buying a CX-5 last week, but I had a different reason—my old car broke down, and I really needed one.

I think even if they do a ‘new generation,’ it will still use the same reliable drivetrain, just with a slightly different look. Maybe a smaller CX-90. If you go for the new model, I’d wait a few years to let the first-year bugs work out. You could go for the current model once the new one comes out and grab it at a discount. Then, if you really want the latest version in a few years, you can buy that then.

The new model will probably be better, but we don’t know exactly how much better yet. I’d wait until it’s announced, see the price, and decide if it’s worth it or not.

You could buy the current model now and trade it in 4 years. That way, you’ll still get a good price for it, and by then, the new model will be more refined.

Just wait, there are already spy shots of the new car.
