Cool! I’ve always liked the CX-50 because it’s such a unique and different car. I drove one for two weeks and liked the space and wide body, but I didn’t like the engine (it wasn’t the turbo), and it consumed more gas than my Jeep.
Now that there’s a hybrid, I may reconsider and check it out!
The CX-70 was a big disappointment for me, so I’m not getting that. The CX-90 is okay, but since it shares the same body as the CX-70, I’m not interested anymore.
The CX-5 I had was enjoyable, but I need something bigger, more powerful, and stable.
I have a 2016 CX-5, and I drive very aggressively. I often use manual mode, downshifting into corners or using engine braking with or without the brakes to slow down. It’s from years of driving manual.
Can the driving dynamics of the hybrid really compare? Or does regen braking feel enough like engine braking to slow down in corners or straightaways when you see a slowdown ahead? With my driving style, I suspect the turbo is a better fit. Regardless, I need more power, as my current 187 HP isn’t cutting it. I want a car that doesn’t force me to buy premium fuel, so the Germans are out.
This is a great review! It makes me feel a bit better about breaking my Mazda streak and getting the Crown Signia. I was cross-shopping the CX-50 Hybrid but couldn’t secure a test drive. I think the Crown Signia addresses some of the hybrid noise and braking issues of the RAV4. It works better as a long-distance cruiser, but I’ll definitely miss the handling of my Mazda 3 once I sell it.
My worst luck would be if Mazda decides to bring the CX-60 PHEV to the US next year :(((
