Anyone here over 6 feet drive an MX-5?

I went to a Mazda dealer hoping to sit in an MX-5 to check if I’d fit without hitting my head on the roof or struggling to see through the windshield. The salesperson told me they sell too fast to keep one on the floor. I’m not buying a car without sitting in it first!

I’m 6’3”, 260 lbs, with a 32” inseam. Any tall folks here able to drive it comfortably without adjusting seat rails or making mods? If it seems possible, I’ll find another way to test one, maybe a used model.

I’m your size, 6’3” and 260 lbs with a 32” inseam. I bought the soft top after trying both it and the RF version. The convertible gives me that little bit of extra headroom, so I can even wear a cap while driving. Got the manual too, and the legroom is fine for working the clutch.

You’ll love it. Also, with the top down, no worries about the wind snatching your hat!

@Skyler
Good to know! I was also considering a Mini Cooper JCW, but I think the Mazda might be more reliable. One of my neighbors just got a soft top. Guess I’ll have to ask them for a quick test-sit!

I tried sitting in one, and it was tight. I’m 5 inches shorter and 100 lbs lighter than you. Honestly, I don’t think the MX-5 will work for your size.

Tight at 5’10”? You must have a long torso. I’m 6’1”, and my hair barely brushed the roof. I got a seat-lowering kit, and now I have at least an inch or two of clearance. It’s been great since then!

I’m 6’9” with a huge ego and still fit well.

Okay, jokes aside, I’m actually 5’10” and fit just fine. I don’t think it’d work if I were 4 inches taller, though.

You didn’t have to roast the original poster like that, lol.

Hey, I was impressed for a second there!

I’m not your size, but I tried getting into one once and gave up. I decided mid-sized or full-sized coupes, like the BMW 6/8 series or an Accord Coupe, are more realistic for me.

I’m 6’0”, a bit lighter than you, but with a longer inseam. I drove a soft top during a Mazda event a few years back and had no issues fitting, even with someone in the passenger seat. Felt surprisingly roomy for me!

I’m 6’2” and 220 lbs. I test drove an MX-5 and just barely fit legroom-wise. It was fine for city driving, but I wouldn’t want to take it on a long road trip.

I’m 6’1” and pretty slim, but I couldn’t get comfortable in the hardtop version of the MX-5. Felt way too cramped and tough to get in and out of.

Never sat in one myself, but a coworker drives one daily. He’s about 5’9”, and it looks like a tight fit for him. You might want to try another dealership or check out a used car lot to sit in one before deciding.
